This branded video from Samsung has completely made my day!
I think of myself as pretty savvy when analysing video marketing efforts from brands, but I was honestly not prepared for the twist in this brilliantly executed production from Samsung. If you haven’t watched the video yet, then I implore you to give it a watch before proceeding, it really is a moment of inspired joy when the joke kicks in.
Obviously deployed as a ‘blooper’ clip from behind the scenes of a commercial shoot, the sincerity of the fear and panic at the start swiftly persuades the viewer that the clip is authentic. At this stage it’s not really a stretch of the imagination to believe that a bear could interrupt the proceedings, but buoyed by the absolutely seamless CGI, the viewer believes in the fidelity of what they’re watching right up until the twist.
The remainder of the video joyfully continues with the joke, adding extra layers of humour and absurdity upon their crafty trick. The final product is a total delight, an excellent example of tight direction, quality visual effects and a fantastically simple concept. All this effort just to sell a washing machine? This is why online video rocks!
