Just. Wow. Toy Story, perhaps one of the most significant films in the history books has been remade, and for once, not by the uninspired movie studios.
No, Live Action Toy Story is the culmination of over two years of work for Toy Story fans Jonason Pauley and Jesse Perrotta. The pair sought to recreate the iconic feature-length animation, but entirely in live action and unbelievably shot-for-shot, using real toys and real people. Utilising a combination of puppetry, stop-motion animation, chroma-key and a range of transitions and editing tricks, they finally achieved their goal, racking up over 4 million views in under a week.
Now, sometimes projects may be a little rough around the edges, and lets be honest, Live Action Toy Story is far from a seamless and polished movie production however, the vision, hard work, determination and fierce dedication deserves recognition and reward.
Choosing to remake Toy Story seemed an obvious choice to the pair, “Toy Story is one of our all time favorite movies. And it was the first full length computer animated feature ever, so we thought it would be cool to make the first live-action remake of the first computer animated movie,” Perrotta told ABC. “Also, it’s one of the few animated movies that is actually possible to remake with our budget and resources. It’s the easier to replicate in real life.”
